Johnsburg Public Library

 

         May 8, 2018

 

 

Call to Order

Meeting was called to order by President M. Diedrich at 7:05 p.m. Trustees present: M. Diedrich, K. Gustafson, D. Liston, K. Liston, S. Reitz and J. Stockwell. Director B. Ryan was present.

Absent: L. Dohrn

 

Approval of Minutes

Motion was made by J. Stockwell and seconded by S. Reitz to approve the minutes of the April 10, 2018 meeting.

Ayes:  M. Diedrich, K. Gustafson, K. Liston, S. Reitz and J. Stockwell.

Abstain:  D. Liston

Motion passed.

 

Approval of Bills

Motion was made by D. Liston and seconded by J. Stockwell to approve the payment of bills in the amount of $52,810.76.

Ayes: M. Diedrich, K. Gustafson, D. Liston, K. Liston, S. Reitz and J. Stockwell.

Motion passed.

 

Treasurer’s Financial Report

Trustees reviewed the FY Year 2017-2018 April 30, 2018 financial report.

 

Committee Reports

None

 

Correspondence

Trustees discussed the FY 2018 Per Capita Grant awarded to the Johnsburg Public Library District in the amount of $15,526.25.

 

Trustees also discussed the Back to Books Grant awarded in the amount of $4,941.00 to the library for support of Reading Takes You Everywhere-Navigating Your Way to a More Knowledgeable You.

 

Trustees also discussed the Live & Learn Construction Grant awarded to the library in the amount of $2,777.00 assisting with the important infrastructure improvement project. There was an accompanying email discussing signing the upcoming contract from the State Library.

None

 

 

New Business

Trustees discussed future outsourcing of library staff payroll to a vendor.

Motion was made by J. Stockwell and seconded by D. Liston to use the vendor Paychex for library staff payroll beginning in the 2018-2019 fiscal year.

Ayes:  M. Diedrich, K. Gustafson, D. Liston, K. Liston, S. Reitz and J. Stockwell.

Motion passed.

 

Director’s Report      

1.  

Food for FISH:

During Half Price Fines week $254 was raised. Exceeded expectations. Also many patrons cleared up larger old fines,

 

 

2.  

Landscaping:

The Village’s Christmas tree (technically on the bank’s property) is dying. With Library Director’s B. Ryan approval the Village planted a new evergreen on library property. The Village also removed a dying library tree currently blocking the sign in front and will plant a new tree the library chooses replacing a tree the library removed previously.

 

 

3.  

New Materials:

The new hotspot has been received and when ready for circulation it can be checked out for 7 days, be non-renewable and be subject to a $5/day late fee if not returned on time. Hotspots are very popular check out items at other libraries.

 

Also, the library purchased 3 Playaway Launchpads (kid friendly tablets preloaded with learning activities designed for children of different ages) for in-library use.

 

The library has begun adding TV series. These materials will check out for 14 days and will be shelved next to the non-fiction library DVD’s in the back of the library.

 

 4.  New Phones:

On Thursday, May 10, 2018 the new phone system will be installed. If any interruptions to phone service occur, it will only be for a few minutes.
