DIRECTOR’S REPORT

June 2013

  1. Status of Delinquent Patron:

We have a reciprocal borrower patron from Woodstock who checked out 25 Homeschool Resource Center items in April 2012 that had not yet been returned.   Total value of the items was $1,900.   We submitted the info to the collection agency last year and numerous notices were sent, but in October mail was being returned because the address was no longer good.   I decided to talk to our chief of police regarding a fairly new state statute regarding theft of library material “by failure to return” (meaning checked out, but not brought back).  It is a Class 3 felony if the library materials have a value in excess of $300.  We started the ball rolling on the process.  Within one day of me emailing the patron regarding the felony status, he emailed AND called me stating he was going to return the items the next day.  He only returned half of the items and was supposed to return the other half this past weekend, but did not.  I’ve informed the police of the status and we’ll see what happens next.
