The library’s 30th anniversary is November 15. Tentative plans right now include an Edible Book Contest on Sat., Nov. 10. Cash prizes would be awarded to the winners, with the public also being allowed to vote and be entered in raffles to win the entries. The contest would challenge creative readers and cooks to “illustrate” a book title or theme in three dimensions using edible ingredients. (We would serve actual bakery cake to those in attendance.) We’ll probably also do some kind of giveaway on that day, too. The Friends also suggested a “30 days of Johnsburg trivia” contest, which Melanie is currently working on. This would probably involve some kind of Facebook contest, but the details haven’t been worked out yet.
We had 29 copies of the first book checked out, but only 9 people showed up for the meeting. That actually was a perfect size group for discussion, but Heather was disappointed that no one was interested in any online discussion group. We currently have 18 copies of the next selection, “The Blessings of the Animals” by Katrina Kittle, checked out.
As of the time of mailing the board packets (Friday), we have not received info from the county on FY2013 tax income.
