 DIRECTOR’S REPORT
October 2011

  1. Building maintenance issues:
When it rains, it pours… literally. During the recent rains, we ended up with 2 leaks in the staff work room. Kurt called the roof inspection company and they will be sealing the seams of the roof angles in that area for $400. That same day, Kurt noticed a sewer gas smell in the basement. He called to get our septic pumped and discovered at least a dozen dirty diapers (as well as condoms!) had been flushed down the toilets. We have since put up signs asking people to please not flush diapers. The very same day we found out that the sump pump wasn’t working, so Kurt had it immediately replaced. The backup system also needed replacing, which Kurt got bids for.

  1. Per Capita Grant money for FY2011:
At my recent county library director’s meeting, it was announced that libraries should have their FY2011 Per Capita Grant checks by December of this year.

  1. Kindle now compatible:
Amazon’s Kindle is now compatible with our downloadable e-Book subscription. Since the new fiscal year started on July 1, there have been 257 eBook checkouts.

  1. New volunteer:
Heather Lipman is one of our library patrons who is working on her Master’s in Library Science. She is now coming in twice a month on Saturdays to help us with weeding our picture book collection to make room for new acquisitions.
